Most of our foreign customers buy paving slabs by the container load. The containers are loaded in the yard, usually by fork lifting the pallets into the container and using a trolley jack to position them in the required place. The 20 feet container will take ten average sized pallets, so the amount of paving slabs that can be exported this way is usually about 130m2 based on an average thickness of 60mm. The weight of this load would be approximately 18 tonnes. Sometimes we have loaded the containers by hand and vertically stacked the paving slabs. This is usually when thinner slabs have been ordered. These are more inclined to break when horizontally placed on the pallets. We have photographs of loading containers in the delivery photos category.
